چکیده

In this work, a novel ECG data compression method is presented which employs set partitioning in hierarchical trees algorithm(SPIHT) on two dimensional electrocardiogram(2D-ECG).The 2D ECG is a two dimensioned array, in which each row of this array indicates one or more period and amplitude[7] normalized ECG beats. When SPIHT algorithm is used to compress one or two-dimensional signals separately it is observed that they achieve precise rate control, progressive quality, high compression ratio and low root mean square[7] difference(PRD).Better results are attained because of the wavelet transform eliminating effect[7] on redundancies between adjacent samples. It is also eliminated in onedimensional ECG-and between adjacent beats by applying 2D wavelet transform. The SPIHT algorithm has achieved prominent success in signal compression. Experiments on selected records of ECG from MIT-BIH arrhythmia database revealed that the proposed algorithm is significantly more efficient for compression.

Determining the Proper compression Algorithm for Biomedical Signals and Design of an Optimum Graphic System to Display Them (TECHNICAL NOTES)

In this paper the need for employing a data reduction algorithm in using digital graphic systems to display biomedical signals is firstly addressed and then, some such algorithms are compared from different points of view (such as complexity, real time feasibility, etc.). Subsequently, it is concluded that Turning Point algorithm can be a suitable one for real time implementation on a microproc...

THE PIVOTAL ROLE OF CRANIAL NERVER DECOMPRESSION

Reported are a total of 81 microsurgical operations for cranial nerve root decompression comprising of 66 trigeminal, 10 facial, one vestibular, one vagus and three accessory nerve dysfunction syndromes from 1983 to 1990. Almost all cases of trigeminal neuralgia (TNG) secondary to vascular (59 cases) and minute mass (10 cases) compression, and those with hemifacial spasm (HFS) (nine out o...

General history of vestibular disorders in diving.

Cmt Kennedy K. S. 1974. General history ot vestibular disorders in diving. Undersea Biomed. Res. ^rC '(I): 73-81.-The history of vestibular symptomatology in hyperbaria is reviewed. Most of this literature deals with vertigo as a symptom of decompression sickness in divers and caisson workers, although other symptoms (e.g. nystagmus, staggers), other influences (compression, mixed gases), and o...

Modified Simple Decompression of Ulnar Nerve in Treat-ment of Cubital Tunnel Syndrom

BACKGROUND There are two main surgical approaches, simple ulnar nerve decompression at the elbow, and anterior transposition of the nerve in treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome. Both techniques were reported in literature in details with similar reported success rates. Here, we present a modified simple de-compression surgical technique in treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome. METHODS Fifty...

New compression and decompression of speech signals by a Neural Predictive Coding (NPC)

In this paper, we present a new method of speech compression and decompression based on a Neural Predictive Coding of speech signals. The NPC system is designed to predict the samples of a speech signal window from previous ones. In the coder/decoder that we proposed the transmitted data is computed from the prediction error of the NPC (difference between the sample and its corresponding predic...
